Tokay Gecko

Name and Personal History:
Mick: He is the largest male we have. He was rescued from a pet store that went out of business in 2000.

We have five of these lizards in total.

Native Habitat:
Southeast Asia, from India to the Philippines and into the Indo-Australian Archipelago.

Environment:
Tokay Geckos can be found in the humid rain forest, with an average day temperature of 85 F with a drop to about 68 F at night. Tokays spend virtually their whole life in trees, hiding during the day, emerging only at night.

Physical Characteristics:
Tokay Geckos reach up to 10 inches in length. They are grayish in color with rough bumpy skin that has orange spots.Tokay Geckos are named after the loud barking vocalization produced by adult males, which has been described as “To-ko, To-ko”. They are also not afraid to bite human hands.

Diet:
Tokays are predatory animals with arthropods and other insects forming the bulk of their diet. However, a Tokay will consume anything that it can capture, overpower and consume whole, including small birds, mammals, and other reptiles.
