Piedmont Park

We'll be heading back to the East Bay this summer for another two weeks in Piedmont Park! Campers will explore the wildlife of the park, looking for birds in the sky and animals in the creek! They'll also create nature-based art projects, engage in fun activities, and perform hands-on experiments, delving into the world of science and nature while having an absolute blast! We are outside everyday, all day.  Our camp credo is to “Get out and Get dirty”!  Every week kids will meet live rescued reptiles and amphibians, do hands-on science and art projects and explore outside.  The weekly camp themes help inspire us, but we are always following our imagination as we create new projects and experiments together.  Design driven.  Goal Driven.  Kid Driven.  We put cool stuff out and let kids figure it out.  Nature has an infinite number of loose ends to put together and take apart.  It will untangle your mind and make you smart.  We walk and wonder.  Create and tear down.  Discuss and share what we know/what we have learned/what we notice.  We follow John Muir Laws’ mantra: “I see.  I wonder.  It reminds me of…” as we become active observers of the world around us.

Registration must be done through Piedmont's Recreation Department. Registration will be open soon, so check back!

CAMP DATES AND THEMES

July 18th - 22nd: Wildlife Wonderer

Campers at Tree Frog Treks Summer Camp get out and get dirty every day! Each camper builds a special connection to nature with the help of his or her expert naturalists as they discover the world through science.  From mammals to reptiles, birds to insects, plants to ocean creatures, this is a week all about our world full of extraordinary organisms! Each day, we will focus on a different type of wildlife, and learn how they all work together to create our web of life.  We Wander and Wonder Together!

Full Day Campers will go on one field trip to Contra Loma Lagoon and pool (http://www.ebparks.org/parks/contra_loma) to hike, swim/wade (Life guards on staff at all times).  Field Trip transportation provided by chartered school bus.  Half Day Campers will remain in Piedmont Park all week.

July 25th - 29th: Creative Chemist

Campers at Tree Frog Treks Summer Camp get out and get dirty every day! Each camper builds a special connection to nature with the help of his or her expert naturalists as they discover the world through science. This week, in addition to our usual nature treks, each day we will also conduct a hands-on, kid-friendly chemistry experiment. Launch a mini-rocket using baking soda and vinegar, create ooey gooey slime, learn fire safety with endothermic and exothermic reactions, and much more! And of course, get a chance to meet some of our Animal Ambassadors, such as Blondie the Burmese Python or Ivan the Spur-Thighed Tortoise. We Wander and Wonder Together!

Full Day Campers will go on one field trip to Lake Don Castro (http://www.ebparks.org/parks/don_castro) to hike, swim/wade (Life guards on staff at all times).  Field Trip transportation provided by chartered school bus.  Half Day Campers will remain in Piedmont Park all week.
