School Programs

In- and After School Enrichment Programs
Tree Frog Treks teaches fun interactive in- and after school science enrichment programs that introduce kids to concepts in biology, chemistry, physics, earth sciences and natural history. Our programs also allow them to meet live reptiles and amphibians face-to-face. Our themed curriculum cover integrated science topics and reinforces learning through hands-on science experiments, art projects, movement and song. Our sessions run for 8-12 weeks depending on your school's scheduling needs. All of our lead teachers have college degrees, many have Master's degrees, and all have been thoroughly trained by Tree Frog Treks to teach our curriculum and introduce children to live reptiles and amphibians.

Discovery Day Schools

Tree Frog Treks offers weekly two-hour science & nature exploration programs for kids ages 4-10 in local parks around the Bay Area. Our classes offer a low naturalist-to-student ratio, lots of hands-on science experiments, and face-to-face contact with our creepy, crawly co-workers. We explore science and practice critical thinking through hands-on experiments and outdoor adventures, and inspire a love of nature and learning through contact with live rescued reptiles and amphibians. All of our lead teachers have college degrees, many have Master's degrees, and all have been thoroughly trained by Tree Frog Treks to teach our curriculum and introduce children to live reptiles and amphibians.

Animal Care Internship Program

Does your child love reptiles and amphibians? Does he or she dream of becoming a herpetologist or biologist? Enter Tree Frog Treks Frog Hall and Rainforest Room to learn about and care for our reptiles and amphibians! Classes are very small and learning-intensive. The internship program, led by our Animal Care Director, Ross Beswick, is for children ages 7 and up. Interns' responsibilities include feeding our carnivorous reptiles, dissections, and other hands-on animal husbandry skills.

Interested? Write and send us a letter explaining why you think you'd be a good Animal Care Intern to internships@treefrogtreks.com.

School Visits and Assemblies

In presentations led by an energetic and knowledgeable naturalist, we encourage children to see themselves as part of a larger system of natural life in which every organism, from mosquito to shark and flower to mushroom, plays an important part. Our naturalists will introduce children to our creeping, crawling and slithering co-workers, from tiny Pacific Tree Frogs to 14-foot-long Burmese Pythons. We'll bring a variety of amphibians and reptiles, discuss how they're adapted to their natural habitats, and examine what role they play in the ecosystem.

Our presentation can be tailored to meet your schools' interests. Other themes and curriculum are available.

Field Trips
Our field trips are opportunities for your child's class to explore the great outdoors with our experienced naturalists who are well-trained in local flora, fauna and natural history. We'll find and eat miner's lettuce, search the skies for red-tailed hawks, and hunt under rocks and logs for salamanders, sow bugs and other creepy-crawlies.

Your kids get to meet and greet a few our Animal Ambassadors; use our reference materials, dip-nets, spotting-scopes, binoculars, and bug containers on scavenger hunts in which kids use observation skills they learned and developed on our hike, all while fostering a relationship with and love for the natural world around them.

Immersion Programs
Tree Frog Treks has extensive experience in leading intensive immersion programs for grades 4-12 in natural environments, from camping on the banks of the American River, exploring Gold Rush Country in Coloma California, or leading natural history excursions on Pt. Reyes National Seashore. Our naturalists will lead programs tailored to the needs of your group and California State Standards.
