Tennessee Valley at DuskSaturday August 29, 2009 | 6:30-9:30pm * F.R.O.G. Members Event * Discover the magic of Marin's Tennessee Valley as the sun sets and the moon rises. After a brief mind map in the picnic meadow, we will go on a twilight safari to the chaparral pond. On our way, we will walk beside the creek drainage and coyote brush-covered hills, gently flipping and replacing cover objects looking for sleeping California slender salamanders, garter snakes, isopods (rolly pollies), millipedes and red wiggler worms. We will dip-net in the pond for newts, back-swimmers, whirligig beetles and croaking tree frogs. As the sun sets, we will sip hot cocoa and listen quietly on the banks for the evening chorus of birds and frogs to signal the end of another day. On the way back to the meadow we will seek out, many different species of nocturnal creatures as they journey through the darkness of the night, including coyotes, bobcats and great horned owls.
