Winter Camps 2016
All the inhabitants of San Francisco are hunkering down for the winter season, thriving on stored food from the fall gatherings. All animals, including those of us at Tree Frog Treks, are finding ways to explore their environment and how it has changed since summer. Even in temperate Central California, a trained naturalist can observe seasonal behaviors and environmental factors intrinsic to winter.
Join Tree Frog Treks and our experienced Wild Science team for three days of winter exploration and learning as we journey from our home base at Frog Hall Education Center, just east of Golden Gate Park, to discover the wild side of San Francisco! Campers will travel to local parks such as Land's End and Glen Canyon to discover the amazing plants and animals who inhabit our beautiful city, from soaring Red-tailed Hawks to slimy Slender Salamanders. In addition to outdoor adventures, campers will perform hands-on science experiments, play games, and make nature-inspired art. They'll even get to have face-to-face encounters with our creepy crawly Animal Ambassadors like Pablo the Bearded Dragon or Blondie the Burmese Python!
It's the perfect time to get and get dirty, so put on your explorer hat, grab your binoculars and bug nets, a let's hit the trail for some science fun!!!
During each camp session, campers will meet live animals, perform fun experiments and build leadership and critical thinking skills through adventuring in nature with peers and instructors. Come meet Blondie the Burmese Python, Ivan the African Spur Thigh Tortoise, Squiggles the Asian Water Dragon, and Stickum the White’s Tree Frog - to name some of our nearly 100 Animal Ambassadors! We play games and tell stories to bring many unseen aspects of our urban habitat to life for our campers.
