Iguana Ysa

Hola, my name is Iguana Ysa (she/her)! I grew up on the central coast of California and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Earth and Environmental Science with a minor in Marine Science from Boston University in 2024. I’ve been teaching outdoor education from coast to coast since 2021. I am passionate about connecting kids to nature and inspiring them to be future leaders in environmental stewardship. I am particularly invested in teaching bilingual science in Spanish and English to help kids become global leaders in science communication. I value both structured curriculum time and unstructured play time for kids to run around and take initiative to explore on their own. I bring silliness and imaginative play with animal finger puppets, silly camp songs, and ukulele.

Outside of being an outdoor educator, I’ve been working on my Master’s in Tropical Ecology and Conservation at Universidad San Francisco de Quito in Ecuador. My research focuses on the population genetics of an endemic tree species on the Galapagos Islands. My dream is to bridge the gap between outdoor education opportunities in the US and kids in Ecuador one day.
