Rebecca VanDeVoort, AKA RV Frog, met Mr. Science and Buddy the Iguana(RIP), one sunny day in 2002 while walking around Oakland. A few weeks later, she began her journey as an assistant teacher for Mr.Science which led to her working as a lead naturalist for Tree Frog Treks. In 2017, she began directing the summer camps in Piedmont Park, followed by two summers in Stern Grove/Pine Lake Park and another at McLaren Park where she will direct again this summer. Having grown up in the enchanted Lake Superior National Forest of northern Minnesota, there is nothing she loves more than sharing her love of the outdoors, plants and animals with others. She has a special interest in helping foster critical thinking skills for her students as well as botany, biomimicry and the intersectionality of art, science and music.

Aside from summers, she currently resides in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where she loves hiking the gorgeous beaches with her trusty sidekick, Astropup, and exploring the incredible biodiversity of the island. Her educational background is diverse with microbiology, poetry, sociolinguistics and Native American as the studies of her B.A. and experimental poetics for her MFA. You can also find her working as an adjunct literature and writing professor at Golden Gate University.
